C. Richard Mayhugh

U.S. Veteran

C. Richard Mayhugh, 76, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012. He was born September 11, 1935, in Mound City, KS, to Elmer & Lillian Mayhugh.

The Mayhugh family moved to the Woodrow community in 1936. Richard has continued to live in the area most all his life. He married Carmelita Pease on June 6, 1955 in Fort Morgan. Richard served two separate terms in the US Army, the first from March 18, 1958, until March 1, 1960. He was recalled into the US Army on October 24, 1961, and served until his honorable discharge on August 9, 1962. After returning to Brush, Richard worked as an automotive mechanic at Carroll Motor Company and later Mayhugh Bros. Garage with his brother, Lloyd.

Richard loved to fish and camp. He was an active member of the New Testament Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.

Survivors include his wife, Carmelita of Brush; 4 children, Doug of Lafayette, CO, Brad of Loveland, CO, Becci Gardener of Brush, and David of Johnstown; 2 brothers, Harold Thompson of West Tawakonie, TX, and Lloyd Mayhugh of Brush; 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 brother, Larry, and his parents.

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 3, 2012, at 10:30 AM at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary Chapel in Brush. Concluding services with military honors and interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver. Visitation will be at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary on Wednesday from 4 – 6 PM.

Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the New Testament Baptist Church or to Hospice of North Colorado c/o Heer & Dahl Mortuary.
