LeVern Jensen of Fort Morgan, CO passed away on February 5, 2023 after a short illness. He was born April 21, 1930 in Fairbury, NE, the only child of Esther and Harold Jensen.

After graduating from Fairbury High School he attended Fairbury Jr. College and completed his bachelors degree in Education at the University of Nebraska. He completed his master's degree in Educational Psychology at the University of Northern Colorado.

His career in education spanned over 40 years. He taught in Big Springs, NE and Belleville, KS before settling in Fort Morgan, CO in 1958. He enjoyed working in the classroom, then as a middle school guidance counselor and as a gold coach. He cared deeply about his students and forged lifelong relationships with many. A "wall of fame" in his shop is dedicated to the fortunes of many former students, including golf successes, professional accomplishments and their family celebrations. One of his favorite sayings was "You did good!"

He was a lifelong, proud N.U. Big Red fan, and enjoyed following the Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies and Colorado Avalanche as well as a supporter of the local middle school and high school athletics.

LeVern was an avid outdoorsman. He spent many days in his youth hunting and fishing with his father and uncles on the Little Blue River in southeast Nebraska. He continued sharing hunting and fishing adventures with his family, spending time at local lakes and making yearly trips to Minnesota in search of walleye. He and his wife, Mary, spent many years hiking the trails in Rocky Mountain National Park. He enjoyed sharing those adventures with his family, from his own children to grandchildren and brother and sister in law. The grandkids all recall the stories he would tell along the trail that would keep them on the lookout for a mystical creature of the woods.

Golf was one of LeVern's favorite activities. He loved teaching the game as much as playing the game. Along with being the high school golf coach for many years, he worked to establish local youth golf programs and assisted in the establishment of the Dale Douglas Junior Golf Tournament. Many benefited from his custom-built golf clubs.

Travel was another activity which he enjoyed. He was ale to explore his proud Danish heritage by visiting Denmark and surrounding European countries twice. He maintained friendships with family and friends in Denmark for many years. He was a member in an RV camping club that traveled across Colorado and beyond on monthly trips. His RV life also included trips to the Canadian Rockies and the Pacific Northwest. He was always willing to travel with family and made trips to various western states and explored Alaska by boat, bus, train and plane.

As a man of faith, LeVern was a 64 year member of the United Presbyterian Church of Fort Morgan and served his church as a choir member, elder and deacon. Calling on members as a deacon brought him great joy. He was also very involved with establishing and maintaining the Memorial Garden Columbarium at his church.

The biggest benefactors of LaVern's dedication are his family. With his wife of 73 years, he raised 3 children, Michael, Kristen and Eric. He enjoyed adventures with 4 grandchildren and was blessed to spend many happy hours with 7 great grandchildren.

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to the rock of our family. LeVern was a man who never met a stranger; when asked about his day he was always a "little ornerier today than yesterday"; and will be remembered by many as Hymie Glick. May his humor, friendship and support be with us always.

Memorial service will be held at 11 o'clock on Friday, March 10, 2023 at the United Presbyterian Church, 1300 E. Riverview Ave., Fort Morgan, CO. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Memorial Garden fund, care of the United Presbyterian Church, Fort Morgan.
