Albert Horst, 89, former Fort Morgan resident, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2015, in Wheat Ridge, CO. He was born August 9, 1926, on the family homestead near Briggsdale, CO. to John and Christina (Niceler) Horst. He spent his childhood there with his parents and eight siblings.

Albert served in the US Army during WWII serving in 1945-46. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars #3551 in Fort Morgan.

Albert met Betty Lou Herbst at a Dutch hop dance in Greeley and they were married in Raton, New Mexico on June 15, 1952. They moved to Fort Morgan and Albert began a career that spanned over 30 years working in the oil fields. He and Betty provided a loving home and raised their three children in Fort Morgan. They were married for 39 years when Betty passed away in 1991.

In 1992 Albert met Kay Musser playing bingo in Greeley. She became his loving companion and he moved to Loveland where they remained together until 2014 when declining health for both of them necessitated he move to Wheat Ridge, CO with his daughter and her family. He remained in the care of his daughter until he passed away at her home with her by his side, holding his hand.

Albert loved to travel and visited many states including Hawaii. He was an avid Dutch hopper and traveled to various states to attend dances. His favorite song was "The Windsor Special".

Albert was a member of the First Christian Church in Fort Morgan and drove from Loveland to Fort Morgan to attend services until his health no longer permitted the drive.

Survivors include his daughter Dorothy (Mark) Baca of Wheat Ridge, his sons Craig (Debbie) Horst and Eldon "Rat" (Dana) Horst all of Fort Morgan; grandchildren Melissa Baca and her fiancé Alex Ramirez, Kayla Horst, and Matthew (Alison) Gorrell; 2 great grandchildren, six nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, brothers Reinhold, Johnny, Harold and Raymond, sisters Edna Hendricks, Rose Freidag, Esther Markley, and Irene Benner, and his parents, John & Christina.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 23, at 10:30 AM at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan. Interment with military honors will follow in Memory Gardens.
