ALBERTA LOUISE ZITTLE, 92, lifelong Fort Morgan resident, died Thursday morning, October 27, 2011 at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush. She was born April 5, 1919 in Denver to Albert K. & Elsie Mae (Jones) Carruth. After graduating from Fort Morgan High School, Alberta attended Barnes Business College in Denver and then worked for A.C. Berryhill at a savings and loan. Following her marriage to Ellis Earl Zittle in Fort Morgan on November 26, 1944, she spent her days as a farmwife. In 1970 Alberta was appointed to serve as County Clerk and Recorder to fill the vacancy left by her father who resigned due to ill health. Alberta worked in the County Clerk's Office under her father's leadership before she was appointed. Alberta ran in the general election that year but was defeated. She subsequently worked at First National Bank in Fort Morgan as a trust officer. Mrs. Zittle was very family and friend oriented. She also enjoyed traveling, gardening and working in her yard. She is survived by her son, Jay Zittle of Sarasota, FL; and two sisters, Nelle Green of Temple City, CA, and Eris Bickers of Colorado Springs, CO. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; and her sister, Barbara John. Inurnment took place in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Fort Morgan. Memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Zittle's name to Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center, 122 Hospital Road, Brush, CO 80723.
