Obituary

Aleta Maxine McMahan Sager Hubbard, 91, of Fort Morgan, entered her eternal life Friday evening, June 4, 2021.  She was born on the Old Johnson Place near Paola, Kansas on June 19, 1929, to Harry McMahan & Blanche Thoms McMahan.  She had three older brothers, Donald Dean who died shortly after birth, Rolland & Damon.  She was raised on the McMahan home place.  Aleta attended country schools through the 8 th grade and graduated from Paola High School in 1946.  She accepted the Lord as her Savior & was baptized at the age of 16.  Her faith, family, church & music were intertwined throughout her life.

Aleta married Howard Sager September 1, 1947 after he returned home from WW II.  They moved to Burbank, CA where Howard worked for Lockheed Martin and their son, Richard was born June 16, 1948.  They moved to the Lauver home place in eastern Kansas before settling in Fort Morgan in 1949 where her parents had purchased the Massey Harris dealership and Howard was hired as a mechanic.  Their daughter Melody was born July 7, 1950.

After Howard's accident & death October 25, 1977, Aleta married Howard "Bud" Hubbard on June 19, 1983.  Bud passed away August 1, 2013.  Aleta was blessed to have been married 30 years to each husband.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, now called Elevating Life Church, since 1949, where the women's trio began with Aleta, Ellen Moore Patterson & Evelyn Croswell.  She was pianist & organist, sang in the choir, served as a Deaconess, active on many boards & Bible study groups, visited shut-ins & the bereaved.  She is remembered for her homemade chicken & noodles brought to many church functions. She loved her church family, singing & playing the old hymns & serving her Lord.  Her desire was that the Lord become a personal savior & friend to each one she met.  She joined the singing group "Harmony Hats" in 1988 with Nancy Wheeler, Verna Simmons, Dorothy Smart, Marilyn Peterson, Bev Watson & their husbands performing at area functions, sharing their love of nostalgic & religious music.  She loved her grand & great grandchildren, attending many of their activities & crocheting afghans for them.   She has enjoyed playing piano at Beehive Assisted Live (now call Harmony Home) where she has lived since 2015.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers & both husbands.

Survivors include her son, Richard (Konnie) Sager of Berryville, ARK & daughter Melody (Michael) Jorstad of Fort Morgan, four grandchildren, Anthony (Laura) Jorstad, David (Katy) Sager, Elizabeth (Dan) Baker, Deborah (Jerry) Smallwood; nine great grandchildren, Kylie, Karter & Kamryn Baker, Robert & Anna Jorstad, Alex & Noah Sager, Rose & Nathan Smallwood.  Aleta is also survived by her sister-in-law, Elaine Sager of Lodi, CA & many loving nieces & nephews, family & friends.
