Alfred A. Cox, 82, longtime Fort Morgan area resident, passed away early Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Valley View Villa Nursing Home. He was born June 6, 1926, in Norton, KS, to C. Ernest & Margaret Cox. When Alfred was a young child his family moved to Morgan County. Alfred dropped out of school to enlist in the US Army, serving from 1945 – 1947. On March 5, 1947, he married Vera Drew in Fort Morgan. Alfred farmed & ranched for many years. During this time he worked many harvest campaigns at the Great Western Sugar Company. Later he went to work for Morgan County, retiring as a foreman on the road and bridge crew. He was a life member of VFW #2551, and a member of the United Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, and growing and picking raspberries. Survivors include his wife, Vera, of Fort Morgan; 5 children, Susan Hergenreter, and her husband, Donald, of Greeley, Ronald Cox of Berthoud, CO, Kathleen Lorenzini, and her husband, Larry, of Weldona, Colleen Gilliland, and her husband, Marshall, of Wiggins, and Danny Cox, and his wife, Kim, of Crook, CO; 1 brother, Charles of Johnson, NE; 2 – ½ sisters; 4 – ½ brothers; 11 grandchildren; Troy Hergenreter, Ryan Hergenreter, Lori Hughes and her husband, Zale; Mandi Keating, and her husband, Matt; Chad Lorenzini, and his wife, Katie; Randy Cox, and his fiancé, Maggie; Jeremy Gilliland, and his fiancé Erica; Jennifer Gilliland, and her fiancé Jake Cuckow; Becky Murphy, and her husband, Jason; Travis Platt, and his wife, Ashley; and Andrew Cox; and 15 great grandchildren. Zachery Cox, Drew Cox, Taylor Hughes, Baylee Hughes, and Riley Hughes, Breanne Gilliland, Kaybree Keating, Kaytlyn Keating, Kyra Keating, Americo Lorenzini, Tenleigh Lorenzini, Faith Murphy, Kaidence Murphy, Ryan Platt, and Kaylee Platt He was preceded in death by 1 sister, Marie Kimberling; 5 brothers, Edward, Ernest, Raymond, Frederick, and Calvin; and his parents. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at the United Presbyterian Church, 1300 E. Riverview in Fort Morgan at 10:30 AM. Military Graveside Services by VFW #2551 and inurnment will follow in Serenity Falls Columbarium at Riverside Cemetery.
