Alice Mae Rush, 74, a long time area resident, died Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at her home in Ft. Morgan. She was born July 2, 1938 in Fall River, Massachusetts to Ernest and Laurenden Pickering. Alice grew up in Fall River and worked in the textile mills until moving to Long Island, New York in the mid 1950's. Alice met Lee Rush in early 1958 at a roller skating rink while Lee was in the Air Force. They were married on December 24, 1958 and lived off base in Westhampton Beach, New York. Lee got out of the Air Force in January of 1960 and he and Alice then moved to Denver and resided there until 1999 when they moved to Ft. Morgan. Mrs. Rush was a homemaker and loved to make a lot of her and her daughter's clothing. She also taught herself to how to can and freeze vegetables. Alice attended the Emily Griffith School and received her GED in 1978. She loved to read and had a library of over a thousand books. Alice was active in her church and served as a deacon at one time. She enjoyed travel vacations with Lee and her children. She loved all the holidays, but her favorite was Christmas. Alice had a massive collection of decorations that she loved to display each holiday. Survivors include her husband Lee of Ft. Morgan, one son, Dennis L. Rush and wife his Michelle of Denver, one daughter, Lynda Lu Kump and her husband Robert of Irmo, South Carolina, three brothers, Robert Pickering and Roger Pickering both of New York and Ernest Pickering Jr. of Florida, one sister, Shirley Smith of New York and grandchildren, Cory, Kyle and Nicole Kump. Alice was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Richard and Thomas Pickering. Memorial Services will be held Thursday, July 19, 2012 at 10:30 am at the First Baptist Church in Ft. Morgan is in charge of the cremation arrangements.
