Alyce Louise Carter (83) passed away on April 8, 2024 in Ashland, Oregon. She was born in Webster, South Dakota and moved to Brush, Colorado as an infant. She spent the majority of her life in Brush with the exception of attending nurse's training at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago and nurse practitioner school in Denver. She worked in health care 45 years including positions at the old Brush Hospital, the Brush Clinic, the East Morgan County school district, Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center and also helped out at migrant clinics in the summer. She took great pleasure in helping people and was sympathetic to the human condition. One of her passions after retirement was volunteering at the food bank in Brush.
Never one to sit for long, she participated in many clubs including sorority, bridge club and PEO. She enjoyed spending time in the Poudre Canyon with her husband, family and friends. She was a long-time member of the Brush United Methodist Church and sang in the choir for many years.
She was preceded in death by Jack Carter, her husband of 42 years; parents Frank and Alnea Krueger; brother George Krueger and sister Alaine Krueger. Survivors include her brother, Gaylen Krueger and wife Roxanne of Brush; daughter Lauralyn and husband Hector Meletich of Ashland, Oregon; step-children Carol Grunkemeyer of Grand Junction, Paul Carter and wife Diane of Denver, Jack Carter and wife Linda of Waterville, Maine; grandchildren John Carter (Robin), James Carter, David Carter (Lauren), Michael Carter, Lynette Olson (Ivan), Elisa McClaskey, Dr Erik Dunning, Jason Carter (Stella), Melissa Miniham (Christopher), Maritza Motta (Angel), Alexa Santana Meletich (Nestor); and greatgrandchildren Darrell Carter, Kianna Olson, Faith Olson, Alex Carter, Lorenzo Motta, Gabriel Motta, Samantha Carter, Amelia Carter, Harper Miniham, Ripley Carter and Dragan McClaskey.
A memorial service is planned for July 27, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the gazebo at Brush Memorial Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Brush United Methodist Church. Funeral arrangements by Heer Mortuary in Brush. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Brush Community Cupboard or the Brush United Methodist Church.
