Ambrosita Romero "Mamie" was born on April 12, 1930, to Juan Martinez and Eusebia Sandoval Martinez in Mora, New Mexico.  The family included 4 brothers and 7 sisters.  Mom made her Holy Communion in Mora and attended school up to the 7th grade.  At this point, she left school to help support the family.  Because of this, she wanted all her children to get an education. She grew up very poor and worked hard but always described her childhood as a happy one.   She often spoke of going with her father to herd sheep in the New Mexico mountains.  She would ride horses and tell the story of her rearing up her horse which scared her aunt.  As she grew older the family traveled from New Mexico to Colorado to work in the fields.

Our father, Eufracio Romero, was a widower with 6 young children (Ernest, Esther, Gilbert, Albert, Emil and Mary).  He met the Martinez family working in the fields in Milliken, CO and soon asked for Mamie's hand in marriage.  They were married in the Catholic Church September 30, 1948, in Gilcrest, CO.  Mamie made Eufracio promise to take her to church and he kept that promise.

They lived in Mead, CO working and farming for Sam Dahl.  The following year they moved to Wiggins, CO to farm.  After a hard year of farming, Eufracio and his two brothers went to Rawlins, WY for the winter to work on the railroad leaving Mamie and 5 children with a sack of beans, flour and $20 to get by while they were gone working.  He also left instructions to save the $20 as she may need it to bring them back to Colorado.  They returned home with some money and obtained a loan to help them farm the next spring.  They moved south of Wiggins and rented land to farm.

During the next ten years they were blessed with seven children (Emma, Beatrice, Irene, Eloise, Sam, Susan and Charlie). In 1957 they purchased their first farm, and farming became a way of life for the family.  Then Eufracio lost his left arm in a corn picker accident and Mamie became his left arm.  This changed the dynamic of their farming operation.  She learned to drive tractors and trucks.  Some may consider her a women's liberator by learning to drive the farm equipment.  They worked side by side in the fields.  Their children also took on a greater role with home and farm chores.   This developed a strong work ethic for the kids as the entire family all worked together on the farm.  They had several successful years of farming and were able to purchase two more farms in the area.

Eufracio passed away in 1996 after 48 years of marriage leaving Mamie a widow for many years.  She then moved to Fort Morgan in 2014.  It was hard for her to leave the farm which had been her home for so long, but it was time to go.

She loved to work outside in her flower beds and garden in Fort Morgan.  This was her farming now.  She enjoyed quilting with her Hoyt Circle Club friends and making hand quilted blankets for all her grandchildren.  Mamie loved to talk and sing and laugh and laugh.  It was this laughter that gave her a long life.  She was a strong and feisty woman.

As a woman of prayer and strong faith in God, she was actively involved with her church in Wiggins.  She also enjoyed going with her children to their home churches. She was blessed with a family following in her footsteps and who are involved with their churches.  In truth, the entire family has been blessed by our God and Savior Jesus Christ to have a wonderful, strong mother who prayed her children would love Jesus Christ.  God has answered her prayer.  Mamie is survived by 10 children and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She went home to be with the Lord on March 21, 2025, at the age of 94 years old. We will miss her and yet we know we will see her and all of our loved ones who knew Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior again in heaven. To our mother we say, "Well done good and faithful servant of the Lord."

The family would like to thank everyone for prayers, visits, cards and flowers for our mother during this difficult time.

Recitation of The Holy Rosary will be Thursday, April 3rd at 6:00 PM at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan. The family will begin receiving friends at 5:30 PM

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 4th at Saint Helena Catholic Church in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
