Amy Ruth Andersen, 88, longtime area resident, died Saturday, March 27, 2010 at her home in Brush. She was born February 19, 1922 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to Rev. Ingvard and Ella (Bertelsen) Andersen. She graduated high school in Waupaca, Wisconsin and nurses training in Boston, Massachusetts, and also Dana College in Blair, Nebraska. She attended the University of Minnesota. Amy worked as a Registered Nurse for 43 years which included 2 years in the United States Army Nurse Corps, and one and a half years at the Brush Hospital, and 20 years at Denver General in the emergency room, and 15 years in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She retired from nursing and moved to Brush in 1987. Ms. Andersen was an active member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brush. Her family was very important to her. She never missed sending cards and letters to all her nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and the rest of her family on their birthdays. Amy enjoyed traveling and got the chance to go back to France, where she was stationed during the war, on one of her vacations. Survivors include her sisters, Miriam Petersen of Peoria, Illinois and Lois Sorensen of Rockford, Illinois; one brother, James Andersen of Naples, Florida and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Amy was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Irene Olsen and Grace Endicott, and one brother, Raymond Andersen. A memorial service will be Monday, April 12, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brush. Inurnment will follow in Brush Memorial Cemetery.
