Anita I. Hickman, 92, former Morgan County resident, passed away Friday, October 17, 2008, at the Yuma Life Care Center in Yuma, CO. She was born November 23, 1916, in Anita, Iowa, to Archie & Pearl Hiatt. The Hiatt's moved to Morgan County when Anita was a teenager. She graduated from Fort Morgan High School and attended Colorado State Teachers College (University of Northern Colorado) for two years. Anita taught school for a few years in Weld County and later in Morgan County. On March 4, 1939, she married Victor Hickman in Fort Morgan The Hickman's farmed in Morgan County for many years. Anita moved to Yuma in 2005 to be closer to her son and his family. Anita was very active in Morgan County agriculture. She served as Morgan County Fair judge and superintendent for many years, and was involved in the Extension Homemakers Club. She volunteered with American Cancer Society for many years. Anita was very involved in her church prior to declining health issues. She was a member of the Rankin Presbyterian Church in Brush. Survivors include her son, Clair, and his wife, Mary, of Yuma, CO; 3 sisters, Anna Mae Tennant of Springfield, MO, Marie Tennant of Kansas City, KS; and Beverly Litle of Independence, MO; and 2 grandchildren, Amy of Wray, CO and Troy and his wife, Selina, of Portland, OR. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:30 until 12:00 noon. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 23, 2008, at 1:30 PM at the Rankin Presbyterian Church, 422 Clayton Street in Brush. Interment will follow in the Brush Memorial Cemetery. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Yuma Life Care Center c/o Heer Mortuary, 222 Cameron Street in Brush.
