Arla Jeanne Cook, was born August 18, 1928, at the Slocum Hospital in Brush to Lewis & Mary V. Peterson. She was the youngest of seven children. Arla was a life resident of the Gary and Brush communities. She passed away Monday, June 4, 2012 with her family at her side. Arla graduated from the 8th grade at Gary School. The family moved to Brush so Arla could attend High School. She graduated from Brush High in 1946. Following graduation, she attended Barnes Business School in Denver. On July 13, 1947, Arla married Herman Cook in Fort Morgan. In 1950 the Cook family purchased a farm south of Brush and it is still operational and productive today. Arla devoted her life to her family. She enjoyed baking and having her family together for a meal. She enjoyed helping on the family farm. She raised her family by working and playing hard. Arla enjoyed collecting antiques, especially depression and head vase glassware. She was an avid reader, enjoyed working in her flower garden, bowling, playing cards, especially Pitch, and playing Bingo. Survivors include her husband, Herman, of Brush; 6 children, Steve and Bettie Cook of Clarksville, TN, Rhonda and Jim Cooper of Loveland; Mike and Sandy Cook; Jeff Cook and Deb Seffron; and Jon and Roxanne Cook all of Brush; and Amy and Stan Radomski of Hillsborough, NJ. Her family also includes 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Dorothy Awmiller, Grace Middleton, Elsie Albers, and Marjorie Spafford; 2 brothers, John Peterson and Harold (Nuke) Peterson and her parents. A Celebration of Arla's life for family and friends will be held Thursday, June 7, at 12:00 noon at the Cook Family Farm, 28207 MCR P with a reception to follow the service. The Heer & Dahl Mortuary is entrusted with the cremation arrangements.
