Arla Jean Vaughan, 83, a longtime resident of Morgan County, passed away November 21, 2010, at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush, Colorado where she had been living for the past four years. Mrs. Vaughan was born on December 19, 1926 in Williston, ND to Harry J. and Helen I. Baker. She grew up in Williston and graduated from Williston High School in 1943. She married John Y. Vaughan in Williston on February 10, 1944, and together they raised four children. Over the years Mrs. Vaughan worked as a bookkeeper in various businesses including the Sterling Journal Advocate, Vaughan's Inc., an implement business, a parts store/auto body shop/gas station, and eventually retired from the medical office of Dr Richards. Mrs. Vaughan was a member of the United Methodist Church of Fort Morgan for many years. She loved spending time playing cards with friends and family. She enjoyed playing games with her grandchildren when they were younger. She especially cherished her family photo albums and scrapbooks. Mrs. Vaughan had a great love of music and shared that love with her family quite often. She played the saxophone in her high school marching band that had the opportunity to tour the northern United States along with Canada. She also enjoyed playing the piano and organ. She spoke often of her childhood years especially how she enjoyed ice skating at the local Williston rink. The holidays were her favorite time of year. She was also an avid Rockies fan and had a soft spot for teddy bears of all shapes and sizes. Mrs. Vaughan was preceded in death by her husband, John, her parents, and a sister, Helen Wickham. Survivors include her children, John D. and Dorleen Vaughan of Cañon City, Betsy and Randy Graff of Fort Morgan, Vickie and Larry Vondran of Broomfield, Bruce and Cindy Vaughan of Longmont; grandchildren, Heather and Chuck McDuffie of Cañon City, Amy Graff of Aurora, David Benitez of Seoul, South Korea, James and Letty Graff of Fort Morgan, Amanda Peters of Denver, Amanda Vaughan of Greeley and Tyler Vaughan of Greeley; great grandchildren, Justin McDuffie of Cañon City , Hannah, Simon, Jacob and Rachel Graff of Fort Morgan and extended family and friends. A memorial service and celebration of Mrs. Vaughan's life will be held on Monday, December 6, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary Chapel at 225 East Platte Ave., Fort Morgan. Cremation has taken place and her ashes have been joined with her husband's. Inurnment will follow at the Serenity Falls Columbarium.
