Arnold (Arn) Fred Christensen, 89, of Brush, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013. He was born September 25, 1923, on the family farm near Brush to Fred & Anna Christensen. Arn attended Brush schools and graduated from BHS in 1941. He enlisted in the US Navy and did his basic training at San Pedro Naval Base. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor for 9 months prior to shipping out to Okinawa, Japan, where he served 13 months. After the war, Arn joined his father in farming and married Joan Tucker on June 4, 1949, in Brush. He was a life long member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where he held various positions over the years. He was a member of the American Legion Sagebrush Post 68 since 1949. He was a charter member of the Bunker Hill Country Club, and was proud of his two "hole in one" achievements. Arn had a passion for family, farming, and flying. He earned his private pilot's license at age 50 and enjoyed flying his Bonanza airplane. In later years, Arn liked traveling to visit his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed the camaraderie with his friends playing poker on Friday afternoons. Survivors include his wife of nearly 64 years, Joan; children, Leslie McAllister (Doug) of Greeley, Brent Christensen (Margy) of Aurora, CO, and Claudia Haag (Richard) of Dallas, TX; his sister Janet Spade of Denver; 6 grandchildren, Lauren Barerra, Ryan McAllister, Adam Haag, Cody Haag, Samantha Christensen - Hood, and Nicholas Christensen, and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 sister, Thelma "Chris" Work; 2 brothers, Willard and Edward, and his parents. A memorial service will be held Monday, March 25, 2013, at 11:00 AM at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brush. The service will conclude at the church. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Hospice of Northern Colorado of Greeley or to Bethlehem Lutheran Church both c/o the Mortuary.
