Arthur Henry "Art" Sagel, 82, lifetime resident of Fort Morgan, passed away at his home on Saturday, January 17, 2015. Art was born July 24, 1932 in Fort Morgan to Henry Sagel and Emma Propp Sagel, the youngest of four children. Art attended Fort Morgan schools. As a young man he helped his parents on the family farm with crops and livestock. He joined the United States Navy in June of 1952 and was honorable discharged in June of 1956 after spending time in Adak Island and Memphis, TN. Art was a farmer, a dairyman, a school bus driver for 25 years, and a trucker. He was most comfortable in the drivers seat and especially fond of his time at South Platte Grain where he was working until his health forced his retirement. Art was a member of the VFW Post 2551. Art married Carolyn Erickson on March 23, 2009. Together they enjoyed traveling, gardening, and rooting on his favorite sports teams. He enjoyed working with leather and stained glass, and watching his crops grow. Art is survived by his wife, Carolyn of Fort Morgan; son, Michael Sagel of Kersey; daughter, Emilee Kellerman and husband Tim of Fenton, MO; step-sons, Timothy Whittenburg of Denver; Daniel Whittenburg and wife Maria of Fort Morgan; step-daughters, Patricia Wise of Bullard, TX; Erica Cargel and husband Eric of Chandler, TX; sister, Caroline Weimer of Westminster; twelve grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Ed Sagel and Elmer Sagel, son Glen Sagel and step-son Ty Whittenburg. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at 10:00 AM at the Sanctuary in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens in Fort Morgan. The Heer Mortuary was entrusted with the arrangements.
