Arthur Lavern
Zwetzig
Jul 28, 1930 — Jul 23, 2018
Arthur Lavern Zwetzig, loving brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather of Fort Morgan, CO passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at the age of 87, on Monday, July 23, 2018 at Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, CO. He was born on July 28, 1930 in Fort Morgan to John H. and Olinda (Nazarenus) Zwetzig, growing up with one older brother and a younger sister. He attended school in Fort Morgan before leaving early to work, and served in the U.S. Army beginning on July 6, 1951 until being honorably discharged on July 6, 1953 at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. He married Gloria Dee Von Riesen on August 23, 1959 in Fort Morgan where they made their home and raised five children. He worked in the Parts Department for the Clatworthy Company for 53 years, from 1948 until his retirement in 2001 and could rattle off any part number you needed by memory. Shortly before and following his retirement he selflessly cared for his mother-in-law for several years after his wife's death. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially during the holidays. Visits from or seeing photos of his only great granddaughter (age 2½), gave him great joy in his final years. He had a sense of humor, was always there for his family, would do anything to help, and could fix anything; always to be found working on or tinkering with something, and loved to mow the lawn with his riding lawnmower. He attended church faithfully up until his health declined the past couple years and was a member of the Shepherd of the Plains Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan. Mr. Zwetzig is survived by one daughter, Brenda Guggenmos of Fort Morgan; four sons, Todd (Tamara) of Greeley, Tracy of Milliken, Mark of Fort Morgan and Eric of Fort Collins; one sister, Carol Roth of Fort Morgan; five grandchildren, Matthew Zwetzig, Sarah Zwetzig, Kristopher (Danielle) Zwetzig, Leslie Paxton and Justin Paxton; two great grandchildren, Olivia Zwetzig and Leo Infante; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Gloria in 2001, and his brother John. No formal services will be held at the request of Mr. Zwetzig. There will be a private family gathering for a memorial and interment at Serenity Falls Columbarium in Fort Morgan. Memorials honoring Arthur may be made to Shepherd of the Plains Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan or to the PVH and MCR Foundation https://www.pvhandmcrfoundation.org/donate/ , which supports services provided by uchealth facilities including Medical Center of the Rockies , where superb care was given in his last days.
