She was born to Ray and Glennie Stevens on September 25, 1936 in Phillips County, Kansas. She was raised on the farm with two brothers and a sister. She married her high school sweetheart, Otto D. Kuhlmann on October 23, 1955. She followed him to Germany where he was stationed in the Army. They lived there for two years before returning to Kansas with their first daughter. They farmed in Kansas and settled in Colorado while their family grew.

Audrey was a homemaker and held a few jobs outside the home over the years. She was a daycare provider, a bookkeeper for Sterling Beef and Wiggins Machine and Repair, drove a school bus for Wiggins School District and ran a laundromat she and her husband owned. She loved to garden and can her own produce. She especially loved canning peaches that she would get from Palisade. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting. She loved to bake and was known for her bread, cinnamon rolls and kraut burgers. Audrey's home was always open to everyone. Her children's friends came and went like they were her own. She loved time with family, every celebration possible, camping, fishing, playing board games. Audrey and Otto loved to travel. Their most memorable trip was to Alaska. They retired and started spending summers in Platoro CO where they ran a lodge and fishing cabins.
