Barbara Mae (Fendel) Baumgartner, beloved wife, devoted mother, and precious grandmother, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 20, 2011, at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center, in Brush at the age of 73. She was born March 15, 1938, in Greeley, Colorado to Henry and Mable Fendel. Barbara graduated from Greeley Central High School in 1956. On July 6, 1958, Barbara married LeRoy Baumgartner. They farmed in Weld and Morgan counties for several years. She then kept books for Roy's Mobile Gas station and then for H&B Used Cars and Parts in Fort Morgan. Barbara was best known for her delicious and creatively decorated cakes throughout Morgan County. She owned Barb's Create-A-Cake and taught cake decorating classes. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, the Fort Morgan Bowling Association (serving as League Secretary for several years); she was a volunteer for her children as they went through school serving as room mother and Camp Fire Leader. Barbara enjoyed bowling with her husband and on various women's leagues, serving on the Morgan County Women's Bowling Association Board. She also was the secretary of the Women's Starlighter Bowling League for many, many years. Roy and Barb enjoyed visits to Central City, Black Hawk and Las Vegas. She created numerous crafts including knitted and crocheted items. She loved watching and supporting her grandchildren in all of their activities. Most of all she loved to dance. Roy and Barb loved to Polka, and they went to Dutch Hops throughout Northern Colorado and beyond. Survivors include son Scott Baumgartner of Fort Morgan, daughters, Dawn T-Baumgartner of Fort Collins, and Shelly Bristol of Fort Morgan; ten grandchildren, and six great grand children; and sister, Kathy Fendel of Denver. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, LeRoy; one brother, Richard Fendel, and four sisters, Helen Hoff, Margaret Kiel, Dorothy Frasier, and Evelyn Steinbrecher. There will be a visitation at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary in Fort Morgan on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 from 5 until 7 p.m. Memorial Services will be Friday, November 25, 2011, 1:00pm, at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 1100 West Platte, in Fort Morgan. Memorial donations may be made in the memory of Barbara Mae Baumgartner to the Alzheimer's Association.
