Bernard J. Ewertz, 89, longtime resident of the Wiggins–Keenesburg–Roggen communities, passed away early Wednesday, May 04, 2011. He was born December 15, 1921, in Roggen, CO, to Joseph M. & Margaret Mary Ewertz. On January 23, 1945, Bernard married Edith Rohn in Keensburg. Bernard farmed and ranched all his life. His pride was in his equipment and his farm. He was a self-taught mechanic. He enjoyed "tinkering" in his shop, camping, fishing, and big game hunting. Survivors include his wife, Edith of Wiggins; 1 son, Bernard Jr. of Log Lane Village; 1 brother, Leroy of wiggins; 1 grandson and 1 great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Joseph, Arthur, and Raymond; 2 sisters, Mary Westhoff and Rosalie Westhoff; and his parents. A funeral service will be Monday, May 9, 2011, at 2:00 PM at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens. At Bernard's request, all attending his service are asked to wear casual attire. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 – 5 PM at the Heer & Dahl Chapel in Fort Morgan. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Hospice of the Plains, the American Heart Association, or the American Cancer Society all c/o Heer & Dahl Mortuary.
