Bernard S. Sewald, 83, longtime Morgan County resident, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2021, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Aurora, CO.  He was born April 29, 1938, in Rocky Ford, CO to Paul & Josephine Sewald.

Following his graduation from high school, Bernie joined the US Army National Guard.  He served in the National Guard and retired after serving over 36 years and reaching the rank of Sgt Major.  Bernie loved serving his country and community, fighting fires, snow rescues, flood and hurricane recovery.

Bernie was a member of the Brush Church of the Nazarene, a lifetime Elks Member and American Legion member.  Bernie volunteered and worked with the Disabled American Veterans.  He also volunteered at nearby schools and colleges to educate on a military career.  His neighbors and friends will miss his conversations dearly.

Survivors include his children, Monica Sewald and Michael Sewald; 3 brothers Richard, Don and James; 1 grandchild – Lekell Kuzava,  and 4 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by 1 grandchild; 1 brother; 4 sisters and his parents.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 11, 2021, at 10:30 AM at the Brush Church of the Nazarene (26150 US Highway 34).  Visitation will begin at the church at 9:00 AM.  Military honors by the VFW #3551 & the American Legion Sagebrush Post and the Patriot Guard will immediately follow the service at the church.  Services will conclude at the church.  Inurnment and concluding service, with honors by the US Army Honor Guard, will be October 8, 2021, at 2:00 PM, at the Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.  Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the VFW #3551 Post or to the Morgan County DAV Chapter in care of the Heer Mortuary,  222 Cameron Street in Brush.
