Bertha M. Mortensen, 99, lifelong area resident, passed away Friday, October 10, 2008 in Brush. Bertha was born May 2, 1909 in Hampton, Nebraska to Peter and Marie (Wind) Madsen. She married Homer R. Mortensen on May 27, 1932 in Brush at the Lutheran Church. Bertha was an active member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brush. She taught Sunday School and was a study leader and she held state offices in the church women's group. She was also a member of the local extension club, Eben-Ezer Lutheran Care Center Auxiliary and the East Morgan County Hospital Auxiliary. She was a 4-H leader and superintendent at the Fair. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, cooking, crocheting and taking care of fair animals. Survivors include, one son, Phil Mortensen and wife Judy of Brush, one daughter, LaRue Kendrick and husband David of Brush, grandchildren, Joe and Samantha Kendrick, Ty and Joie Kendrick, Dan and Susan Kendrick Lisa and Ron Rhyne, Mitch and Erin Kendrick, Brad and Cristi Mortensen, Kristin and Clint Kesterson, Bruce and Gina Mortensen and seventeen great grandchildren. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, husband Homer, two sons, Donovan and Paul Mortensen, three sisters, Clara Madsen, Hilda & Edna Lorensen and one brother, Harry Madsen. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Heer Mortuary in Brush. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at 10:30 AM at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brush. Interment will follow in Brush Memorial Cemetery.
