Betty Jean Cromwell-Hatch, 87, longtime area resident, died Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at her home in Ft. Morgan. She was born September 6, 1922 in Ft. Collins to Raymond and Mary (Robertson) Sanders. Betty graduated from Ft. Collins High School in 1940. She attended Colorado A&M (now CSU) and graduated at the top of her class in Music Education in1945. Betty taught school in Weldona, and was a substitute teacher in Ft. Morgan and Brush. She married George LeRoy Cromwell in 1945. He died in 1984. She married Danny Hatch on November 8, 2003. Betty was a lifelong member of the First Christian Churches in Ft. Morgan and Ft. Collins. She was also the organist for the First Christian Church in Ft. Morgan for over 53 years. She was secretary for the Ft. Morgan Chamber of Commerce, secretary for Thompson Elementary School in Brush and secretary for the United Methodist Church in Brush. Betty was a member of the Ft. Morgan Chapter of Eastern Star for over 50 years. She was an avid collector of Native American artifacts and she also collected antiques, glassware and pottery. She played the organ, piano, coronet and cello and had a beautiful soprano voice. She loved her children, gardening, cooking, baking, working outside and housekeeping. Survivors include two sons, George Cromwell Jr., and his wife, Laurie, of Brush and Robert "Toby" Cromwell, and his wife, Melissa, of Sedalia, CO; two daughters, Marijean Skiba, and her husband, Barry, of Stillwater, Minnesota and Judy Gold, and her husband Tom, of Longmont and six grandchildren, Jessica Cromwell-Stone, Tiffany Cromwell-Reichley, Curtis Cromwell, Taylor Gold, Cori Cromwell and Angie Cromwell. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband George, one son, Billy James Cromwell, one daughter, Bettilou Cromwell, one brother, Raymond "Bud" Sanders and one sister, Mary Frances Davis. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 from 5 until 7 pm at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary Chapel in Ft. Morgan. A funeral service will be Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 11:00 am at the First Christian Church in Ft. Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens. Memorial gifts may be given to either the First Christian Church in Ft. Morgan or to Breast Cancer Research Foundation, or EMCH Foundation for the chemotherapy room, all c/o Heer & Dahl Mortuaries.
