Betty Marie Herbst, 91, a longtime resident of Fort Morgan, passed away Monday, July 25, 2016, at Aspen House in Loveland, CO.

Betty was born at home on September 22, 1924, to Fred and Nora (McDaniel) Sussex in Edson, KS. Her family spent most of her childhood in Colorado and she graduated from Fort Morgan High School in 1942. She met her husband, Robert Herbst, in Peoria, IL, and they were married there on September 14, 1944. They moved back to Fort Morgan shortly after being married. Betty worked at Ben Franklin and then at the local Safeway store for 25 years.

Betty was a member of the First Christian Church. She was an active member of Beta Epsilon Sorority, Royal Neighbors and the VFW. She volunteered many hours through the Fort Morgan Hospital Auxiliary. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, baking and spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert; one brother, Thaine Sussex; one sister, Augusta Hackstock; and her parents.

She is survived by her daughters, Susan Herbst of Evans, CO and Linda (Bob) Weimer of Fort Collins, CO; grandchildren, Rodd (Samantha) Weimer of Broomfield, CO and Michelle (Mike) Kerr of Windsor, CO; great-grandchildren Tessa & Regan Weimer and Will & Sydney Kerr; one brother, John (Neats) Sussex of LaGrange, WY.

A memorial service will be held Monday, August 1, 2016 at 10:30 at Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan. A luncheon will follow at First Christian Church in Fort Morgan.
