Betty Nida 73, longtime Fort Morgan resident, passed away Wednesday September 13, 2006 at the North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. She was born January 28, 1933 in Arapahoe, Nebraska to Olaf and Nora (Talley) Hendershot. Betty married Garland R. Nida on January 1, 1950 in Hill City, Kansas. He died in 1973. Betty has lived in Ft. Morgan since 1974. She was a member of the Resurrection Fellowship Church in Loveland. Betty had worked for the local school district since 1958 except for a period of ten years from 1964 until 1974 when she was a school counselor in Nebraska. She returned to Ft. Morgan in 1974 worked briefly as a counselor and was Federal Programs Coordinator from 1975 to 1981. Nida served as principal at Baker from 1981 to 1984, Baker-Sherman from 1984 to 1987 and Green Acres from 1987 to 1997. She was director of intergrated instrucion services form 1998 to 2000, director of Human Resources and Federal programs from 2000 to 2001 and Assistant Superintendent for human resources in 2001. She was named Fort Morgan Association of Education Office Personnel Adminsitrator of the Year in 1986 and received a Colorado Association of School Executives (Case) Department of Elementary School Principals service award in 1991. Nida served on the CASE Elementary School Principals Department Board from 1983 to 1991 and was the group's prsedent in 1989-90. She received a Bachelor's degree in elementary education from Nebraska State Teachers College in Kearney, NE in 1958, a Masters Degree in educational psychology in 1963 and an administrator's certificate from UNC in 1975. She was a member of the school board and was liaison to the Head Start Program. She was also a member of the DOES Drove and the Chamber of Commerce. Betty loved God, her family, and was always there for any number of "kids" that maybe needed her guidance or just a hug. She had a hug for everyone. Survivors include two daughters, Rae Ann Christensen and Vicki Nida both of Ft. Morgan, two grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Garland, two brothers, Jim and Bill Hendershot, two sisters, Doris Ambrosier and Ellen Harding and her great grandson, Layne Christian Thomas. Memorial Services will be Saturday, September 16, 2006 at 2:00 pm in the Ft. Morgan High School Auditorium. Services will conclude at the auditorium. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts in Betty's name in care of the Heer and Jolliffe Mortuary in Ft. Morgan.
