Obituary

Betty Mae Samples was born February 16, 1933 in Denver, CO to Jacob & Hazel Mae Morris.  Betty passed away January 2, 2021 at Valley View Villa in Fort Morgan, CO.  She was 87 years old.

She graduated from South High School in Denver and then attended and graduated from Barnes Business College.  On May 11, 1951 she married John W. (Bill) Samples.  In 1955 they moved from Denver to north of Snyder, where they farmed.  In 1959 they moved west of Snyder, where they continued to farm and also began a dairy farm.  In 2005 they moved from the farm into Brush.

Betty loved everything her boys were involved in, including 4-H, football, wrestling, and baseball.  She never missed an event, often driving the school bus to away events, much to the boys' dismay.  She also helped on the farm, driving trucks during harvest and helping with the cattle.  Later in life she enjoyed traveling in their motor home, camping, and fishing with the grandchildren.  She was also a member of the Civil Air Patrol. Family was the most important part of her life.

She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-laws, John and Nancy Samples, David and Lisa Samples, all of Brush, CO, and Doug and Pat Samples of Eaton, CO.  She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, the 15 th born 2 days before her death.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John W. Samples, and her son Ron Samples.

No services are planned at this time.  In lieu of cards or memorials, the family asks that you contact Governor Polis and let him know how you feel about loved ones dying alone and isolated.
