Obituary

William "Bill" Williams Flenniken III, 76, of Brush, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, August 2, 2013. He was born August 14, 1936, to William Williams Flenniken Jr. & Marguerite Clark Brennan Flenniken in Amarillo, TX. Bill graduated from South High School in Denver in 1954. He then graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley with a B.A. degree in education. He taught school at Byers Junior High School in Denver for three years. Bill married Carol Sorenson in Janesville, WI on February 5, 1966. Bill was a life member of the Professional Golfers Association of America (PGA). He served as the head professional at Rolling Hills Country Club in Golden, CO; the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, OR, Bunker Hill Country Club in Brush, and Windsor Gardens in Denver. Bill was an avid student of golf, always trying to improve his game and loved to teach others to play golf. Upon his retirement in 2001, Bill returned to Brush to work with the grounds crew at Bunker Hill. He loved to mow grass! Besides golf, his other interests include hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Carol Sorenson Flenniken of Brush; 1 sister, Sue Hartwell of Littleton, CO; a brother, Dan, and his wife Chris of Fruita, CO; 1 niece Judy Francois; and 5 nephews, Rand Roorda, Tim Roorda, Brian Flenniken, Jon Flenniken, and Michael Flenniken. He was preceded in death by his parents. Bill will be dearly missed by his companion, "Bubba" a 3 year old chocolate lab whom he personally trained. At Bill's request, no service will be held. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Fort Morgan Humane Society c/o the Heer Mortuary.
