Bruce R. Overturf, 71, died Saturday morning in his home following a prolonged illness. Dr. Overturf was born May 1, 1937, in Bird City, Kansas to Allen E. and Gaynelle Overturf. In 1949 the family moved to Fort Morgan where he attended local schools, graduating with the class of 1955. He attended Denver University, received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1960 and entered the Colorado University School of Medicine. He was married to Anne Lockwood of Wray on September 8, 1963 and received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1964. He served a rotating internship at The Swedish Hospital in Seattle, Washington from 1964-1965 then entered the Medical Corps of the U.S Army where he attained the rank of Captain serving at Fort Bliss, Texas until his discharge in 1967. He moved his family to Wray, Colorado where he practiced medicine until January of 1970. At that time he joined the Fort Morgan Medical Group, practicing there until 1990. He then was in solo practice until his retirement in 2005. He was a strong advocate for the the young and elderly. He served several years on Morgan County's child abuse team, served as the medical advisor to the Fort Morgan Public School's and until recently served on the Eben Ezer Care Center Board. He was a Diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice, a Life Member of the American Academy of Family Practice, a member of the American Medical Association, Colorado Medical Association, the Morgan County Medical Association where he held all offices, and a member of the staff of Colorado Plains Medical Center where he held all offices. When not involved in the practice of medicine, Dr. Overturf loved to be with his family, at their cabin, fishing, reading, spending time in his garden, building model airplanes and other woodworking projects. Survivors include his wife, Anne, of Fort Morgan, his daughter, Teri Sieg, her husband Tim and children Tyler, Trent, and Tarynn, son Dan his wife Kellie and their children Aaron and Randi of Yuma, son Steven and his son Joshua of Fort Morgan; one brother, Don of Farmington, New Mexico and sister Jean Hay of Fort Morgan. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Sylvia and his son Scott. A Celebration of his life will be held Thursday, September 18 at 5 PM at the United Methodist Church, 117 E. Bijou St. in Fort Morgan. A private inurnment will follow at a later date in Serenity Falls Columbarium.
