Burton Charles Darbin, 87, farmer. . . fisherman. . . handy man. . . Burton Charles Darbin died at his home in Wiggins on 14 May, 2008 just one day short of his 88th birthday after a long illness. His wife Syble, daughter Diane and son Durwood were at his side when he passed. He was preceded in death by his brothers Harold, John, Charles, Floyd and his parents. He is survived by his wife Syble of Wiggins: daughters Larenda Bowen of Scipio, Oklahoma, Diane Darbin of Greeley, Colorado and his son Durwood of Wiggins, Colorado, and his sister Ada Belle of Frederick, Colorado, 12 grandchildren and 9 great grand children. He was born on 15 May, 1920 in Yuma, Colorado to Charley and Nettie (Prentice) Darbin. He graduated from Greeley High School (now Greeley Central) and enlisted in the Army on June 6, 1942. He served with the 851st Army Engineers Aviation Battalion. He went overseas on the Queen Mary and served in England, Germany, Scotland, France and Belgium where he built and repaired airfields and bridges. He was honorably discharged on 26 November, 1945 as a Sergeant. He married Syble Henley of Jacksonville Arkansas, on 27 December, 1949, in Jacksonville, Arkansas. He was part owner of Wiggins Farm and Implement and then farmed in Wiggins for 20 years. After farming he worked for the Wiggins CO-OP delivering propane and servicing propane products. After retiring from the CO-OP he became an avid fisherman, master recycler (inner tubes, glass, aluminum, copper etc.) and maker of all manner of things to put in your yard. He was a 'Handy Man' and was always there to help family and friends with home and auto repairs. He loved helping the SHARE program in Wiggins. He was a life member of the Fort Morgan VFW Post #2551 where he was only absent whenever Santa Claus came to the Post for over 15 years. He was a member of the Wiggins Community Church. Nothing brought him more happiness than laughing and enjoying his family. His kind and loving spirit will be missed by all who knew him. There will be a visitation on Sunday, May 18, 2008 from 2 until 5 PM at the Heer Mortuary in Ft. Morgan. Funeral Services will be Monday, May 19, 2008 at 10:30 AM at the Wiggins Community Church in Wiggins, CO. Interment will follow in Hoyt Cemetery. Memorial Gifts may be made to either the Wiggins Community Church or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado. The Heer Mortuary and Crematory in Ft. Morgan is in charge of the arrangements.
