Calvin W. Leach, 97, died early Friday at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush. He was born March 12, 1909, in Sargent, NE, to Roy & Hattie Leach. ON June 6, 1936, Cal married Jayne Derby in Morrill, NE. Cal served briefly in the US Navy during WW II. In 1948, the Leach family moved to Brush when they purchased a local jewelry store. Cal was very involved the Brush community. He served as Mayor for the City of Brush for 2 terms, president of the Brush area Chamber of Commerce, served as an art teacher at Morgan Community College, member and past master of Brush Masonic Lodge AF & AM #123, member of Morgan County Shrine Club, and the Rankin Presbyterian Church. Cal was honored as an outstanding pioneer for Morgan County in 1993. Survivors include his son, Dick, of Brush; his daughter, Nancy Core of Craig, CO; 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents. Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 5, 2006, at 1:00 PM at the Rankin Presbyterian Church. Interment, with Masonic graveside services, was held in the Brush Memorial Cemetery. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Rankin Presbyterian Church in Brush. The Heer Mortaury was entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
