Carl Frank Baessler, 73, of Wiggins, Colorado, passed away November 15, 2014, at the hospice of Northern Colorado, following a lengthy battle with renal failure. He was born April 26, 1941 in Denver, Colorado to John and Janice Baessler as the oldest of 8 children. Carl and his family owned a large ranch in Kiowa before moving to Wiggins. Carl graduated from Wiggins High School in 1959, and then furthered his education by attending NJC in Sterling, Colorado. Carl met his wife Phyllis, who became his lifelong companion and best friend, while attending school in Wiggins. After dating a few years they were married at St. Helena Catholic church on January 3rd 1965. This January would have marked fifty happy years of marriage. From this union, they welcomed into the world two sons Duane and Darin. Throughout his career as a farmer he was well known as an innovator of farming practices, and was always careful to be environmentally conscious. He and his family have resided at their current home in Wiggins for the entirety of their life and the land that he owned was considered to be as much a part of his life as his family. Carl perceived his occupation as a gift, and took particular care to ensure that all of his custom harvest customers were satisfied with his work. His fondness for John Deere tractors was well known, and he often said that "Nothing runs like a Deere". By far his favorite pieces of equipment were his combines, and favorite seasons were corn and wheat harvest. A large portion of his life was devoted to the care of livestock, and although it wasn't his favorite aspect of farm life, he was always very particular about their care and took great steps to ensure that they were well cared for. Carl was an avid bowler, his most notable achievements were bowling three perfect 300's. He was the first individual to bowl a perfect 300 at Gold Crown Lanes in Ft. Morgan on August, 26, 1987. His other 300's were achieved in both Denver and Greeley. Following the conclusion of his bowling career he took up an interest in dog races and Texas Hold'um. His greatest joys later in life could be found in watching his two sons race their stock cars at Fort Morgan Raceway and grandkids participate in various sports such as football, wrestling, baseball, and basketball. Carl's final days were spent in the loving company of his family and friends, where he patiently awaited his reception into the Lords welcoming arms. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Baessler; sons, Duane Baessler and Darin Baessler (Rena); six grandsons, Kyser, Kolvyn, Brevin, Mason, Derek, and Ryder; one long awaited great granddaughter Brynley Ann; brothers, Ted Baessler, Mike Baessler (Linda), David Baessler (Linda), Chris Baessler; sisters, Chere Smits (Bill), Shannon Rogers (Gary); sister-in-laws Sheree Baessler, Ronda Baessler. He was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as a loving extended family; and numerous friends. Carl was proceeded in death by his parents, John and Janice Baessler; his eldest infant brother, Gerard Baessler; brother, Johnny Baessler; sister-in-law Sheila Baessler; mother and father in-law, Rienhart and Clara Weimer. Visitation will be held at Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan at 7:00-8:00 pm on Thursday November 20th. A rosary will be held prior to the service at 10:00 am with the service taking place at 10:30 am Friday, November 21st. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens. Following the service there will be a lunch served at St. Helena's. Memorial gifts may be given to the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Wiggins, Colorado.
