Carl Harold Strand, 78, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2008, at the inpatient hospice unit at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. He was born October 11, 1929, in Bertrand, NE, to Aaron & Beda Marie Strand. He was the youngest of nine children. When Harold was 5 years old, the Strand family moved to Colorado where they farmed north of Otis. Harold attended Sunnyside School and received his high school diploma in Fort Morgan. In 1951 Harold joined the US Army to serve during the Korean Conflict. While serving in the US Army, Harold was with the 701st Military Police Unit, serving as corporal until his honorable discharge in 1953. After serving his active duty enlistment, Harold farmed south of Brush near the Gary community. On June 20, 1954, he married Beverly Lesser in Brush.. During their married life, Harold worked at SureFine Market as a clerk and later as an assistant manager, at Sigman Meat Company until their closure. His favorite job was serving as maintenance supervisor for Sunset Manor Nursing Home until he retired in 1996. In 1991, Harold was honored as the Maintenance Supervisor of the year in the health field. In 2007 he received the Angel of the Year award for volunteer services. He was a member of the Board of Trustees for the Brush Area Museum, a member of the American Legion Sagebrush Post, and the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He enjoyed working with youth and supported the 4-H programs as well as serving as a Cub Scout leader. He had served as Sunday School superintendent, Luther League sponsor, and had served as president and financial secretary for the Church Council of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He served on many other committees at the church, assisted the Bell Choir of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and enjoyed participating in Bible studies. Harold was a farmer at heart, and enjoyed gardening and especially growing and sharing his beautiful dahlias. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Beverly, of Brush; 4 children, Carla Krueger of Hillrose, Julie Strand of Arvada, Daniel Strand and David Strand both of Brush; 1 brother, Milford of Aurora, CO; 2 sisters, Ruth Ray of Brush and Lenore Cawthra of Commerce City; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Roy & Arthur; 3 sisters, Ellen West, Edythe Crocker, and Florence Vawter; and his parents. A celebration of Harold's life will be held Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 603 Custer Street in Brush. Inurnment services will be held at the Brush Memorial Cemetery at 2:00 PM.
