Casper Frank Hergenreter, 69 of Hillrose, Colorado passed peacefully at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center with family at his side. He was born October 3 ^rd , 1952 to Casper F and Marlene Hergenreter in Sterling Colorado. He was the second of five siblings born.

Casper was very involved in 4-H and FFA activities growing up. He also loved to play sports, with football being his favorite. Throughout his high school career, he held many leadership positions, serving as the vice president of his 4-H club southeast of Fort Morgan in 1968, President of his FFA chapter in 1970 and 1971, the South Platte District FFA president in 1970 and 1971, culminating his FFA career by serving as a State FFA officer in 1971 and 1972. Throughout these years he received several awards from teachers, coaches and peers acknowledging his overall good work ethic and tenacity.

One night he called up this girl, Debra Johnston and asked her on a date. This was the start of what would lead to a family he was very proud of. He married Deb on February 23 ^rd , 1974 later bringing into this world a daughter, Shelly, and son, Joel. Casper was proud of his family. He worked hard, yet always had the time to throw a football or want to race his kids on the county road from driveway to driveway. Shelly was not ever able to beat her father, Joel did but not until he was a senior in high school. Casper was a competitively driven individual, instilling these values within his children. Casper loved to watch his children play sports throughout their childhood years.

Throughout his adult years, Casper served in various community board roles beginning as a Morgan County Farm Bureau director beginning in 1973 for six years. In 1987 he had an opportunity to support his high school passion by serving on the Morgan County Fair Board for six years.  Throughout his farming career he also served on a variety of ditch boards including the Lower Platte and Beaver, Pioneer Water, and Snyder Smith Water.  In 1990, he joined the Hillrose-Snyder volunteer fire team and later in 2006 he served as a board director until 2018. In 1996, he was elected as a director for the Morgan County REA, holding this seat for twenty-one years. During the course of this directorship, he also served on the Western United Electric board from 2001 until 2006. Casper was always a thoughtful and well-spoken man; serving on these boards was an honor for him.

His children married and gave him some of his most precious gifts, his grandchildren, Courtney, Zachary, Alexis, and Luke. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids encouraging them in each of their individual passions. There is nothing Casper loved more than to spend time with his family.

Casper is survived by his wife Debra of Hillrose; his children, Shelly and Steve Griffith (Courtney and Zachary) of Brush, and Joel and Stacie Hergenreter (Alexis and Luke) of Polk City, Iowa. He is also survived by his siblings, Janet Monroe, Cindy Musser, Rodney Hergenreter, and Lisa Hergenreter; along with many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom he cherished.

He was preceded in death by his parents Casper and Marlene Hergenreter.

His chains are gone, he has been set free. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 on March 21 ^st at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Brush. All are welcome to join and help the family and friends celebrate the life of a Good Man.
