Obituary

Cecil C. Krueger 77, lifelong resident of Hillrose, Colorado, passed away at his home Monday, October 6, 2014. He was born May 8, 1937 in Brush to C. A. and Dora Krueger. He graduated from Hillrose High School in 1955. On November 26, 1961 he married Lucille Brunkhardt in Hillrose. They were married 52 years. Cecil joined the Army in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1959. After service to his country, he farmed with his brother Martin until 1983. He was a machinist with Mohrlang Manufacturing until his retirement in 2002. Following retirement, he worked for the Division of Parks and Wildlife and Snyder Farms. He was a retired member of the Hillrose-Snyder Fire Department and a member of the Hillrose Rural Fire Board for 25 years. He was also a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hillrose and Shepherd of the Plains in Fort Morgan, where he served as a Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, and a member of the Church Council for 50 years. His greatest joy was playing card games and being with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting, bowling, and playing golf. He is survived by his wife Lucille; His son Dave of Kearney, NE, His daughter Lorraine Mertens (John) of Brush, CO, daughter Cristy Dilley (Josh) of Walden, CO; and his five grandchildren, Steve Mertens of England, Jill Burnett (Daniel) of Austin, TX, Matt Mertens and fiancé Danielle Harms of Sterling, CO, and Hannah and Sophie Dilley of Walden, CO; His brother Arthur Krueger of St. Francis, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Martin Krueger and his sister Dorothy Cooper. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, October 10, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Shepherd of the Plains Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan. Inurnment will be in the Brush Memorial Cemetery. Memorial gifts can be made to the Hillrose-Snyder Volunteer Fire Department.
