Cecil G. Wessel, 83, longtime area resident, died Monday, February 14, 2011 at the East Morgan County Hospital in Brush. He was born October 1, 1927 in Alliance, Nebraska to Virgil and Grace (Lawrence) Wessel. He married LaVonne Holthus on August 22, 1948 in Alliance. They moved from Alliance to Fort Morgan in 1960 and then to Brush in 1969. They owned and operated Hartwig Hardware in Brush for several years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan. He was also a member of the Bunker Hill Country Club in Brush. Cecil was an excellent golfer with several holes in one to his credit. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and playing cards, especially cribbage. He is survived by his three children, Steve Wessel of Brush, CO, Lynette Silvrants of Houston, Texas, and Renita Beery of Aurora, CO; two brothers, Dennis and Earl, both of Irving, TX; three sisters, Maxine Spillman of Oregon, Doris West of Longmont, CO and Mary Louise West of Alliance, NE; five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, LaVonne, and one sister, Arlene. There will be a visitation on Thursday February 17, 2011 from 5 until 7 pm at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary in Brush. A funeral service will be Friday, February 18, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow at the Brush Memorial Cemetery in Brush. Memorial gifts may be given to the Trinity Lutheran Church.
