Charles Bart Burkett, Jr. of Loveland, CO, formerly of Ft. Morgan, CO, went to be with the Lord on August 28, 2026, at the age of 92, surrounded by his loving family. A Celebration of Life service and reception will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 21, in the Great Room at Good Samaritan Society – Loveland Village, Loveland, CO. Graveside services will be held at a later date in Canyon, Texas.

Charles was the son of Charles B. Burkett, Sr and Mattie Inez (Neal) Burkett and brother to Ben Burkett all of whom preceded Charles in death. He is survived by his children Bob Burkett of Montgomery, TX; Becky (Stan) Bates of Georgetown, TX; Brenda (Mike) Lauer of Sterling, CO; and Barbara (Rick) Owen of Arvada, CO. He has eight grandchildren: Braden Burkett, Bryan Burkett, Karen Nash, Carla Smith, Morgan Irion, Taylor Prior, Bryce Owen, and Blake Owen and thirteen great-grandchildren as well as an extended family of much-loved in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Charles was born in Ralls, TX but lived the majority of his early life in Clayton, NM where he met his wife, Ileta Faye George. They graduated from Clayton High School in 1952. He went to the University of New Mexico for one year on a football scholarship but love interrupted his education and he and Ileta married on April 18, 1953 in Albuquerque, NM. They were married for 73 years, always together, until her death in June, 2026.

Charles held many different jobs growing up. Upon marriage, he took a position as a laundry clerk picking up and delivering laundry throughout the Albuquerque area. After 2 1/2 years, he was able to secure a position with Colorado Interstate Gas (CIG) and the family moved to Dumas, TX in August, 1955. Charles worked for CIG for 38 years. He was the Superintendent of Production and Storage when he retired in 1994. The years with CIG took him from Dumas, TX to Keyes, OK and finally to Ft. Morgan, CO.

Charles was a life-long Christian having accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and being baptized at the First Baptist Church in Clayton, NM at the age of 8. He served his church and community in many ways through the years as a deacon, an usher, a little league football coach, and as the Keyes School Board President to name a few. His faith was an integral part of his life, guiding his actions and providing the basis on which he raised his family and lived his life.

Charles will be remembered for his faith and his dedication to his family. He provided the purest example of everlasting love, patience and devotion in how he cared for his wife, Ileta after her diagnosis of dementia.

He believed in hard work, the importance of following through on anything you promised, being honest and being trustworthy. He loved sports and always encouraged his children and grandchildren to be active in school athletics and activities. He enjoyed opportunities to meet and visit with people and share stories of his childhood. In his later years, he cherished the periodic breakfast meetings with his CIG co-workers and friends. His legacy will be carried on by his family and friends, never to be forgotten and much loved.

He will be missed but we know that we will meet again one day in heaven. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
