Clarence A. Scott, affectionately known as "Scott", 84, passed away early Friday, August 20, 2010, at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush. He was born November 26, 1925 in St. Paul, Nebraska to Clarence Harley & Bernice Scott. The Scott family moved to a farm north of Fort Morgan when Clarence was very young. On September 8, 1944 Clarence enlisted in the US Navy where he served until his discharge on March 16, 1946. While in the US Navy, Clarence served aboard the USS Nicholas, a destroyer, and the USS Greenwich Bay, a mine sweep. After his discharge, Clarence began driving a truck over the road. He eventually became owner/operator of his own trucks. An earlier interest in horses began to develop and Clarence became a trainer of his own thoroughbred race horses and trained other owner's horses too. He will be remembered for the care and knowledge he had of his horses and the stories he could tell. He never retired – he always had a horse around. Clarence was a very gentle and kind man. He had a contagious smile and a sense of humor and he always loved his horses, dogs, and cats. On May 15, 1977, Clarence married Warri Joan (Neifert) Nixon in Commerce City. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Morgan, Survivors include his wife, Warri, of Hillrose; his children, Sandra Koll, Randy Scott and his wife, Ann, all of the Denver area; sisters, Joan Latowski of Dacona, CO and Betty Wolfe of Santa Rosa, CA; a brother, Gerald Scott, of Loveland, CO; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; a step-son, Ronn Nixon, of Denver; a step-daughter, Karen Hammen, and her husband Scott, of Loveland, CO and 5 step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Lois Houston, Thelma Debay and Shirley Scott; 3 brothers, Clayton Scott, Clifford Scott, and Dallas Scott and his parents. A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 26, 2010, at 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary in Brush on Wednesday from 5 – 7 PM. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush, or the First Baptist Church of Fort Morgan, or to the Alzheimer's Association, all in care of the Heer & Dahl Mortuary.
