Clarence James Vogl, 91, longtime area resident, died Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at his home in Akron, Colorado. He was born May 12, 1920, in Denver to Walter and Nellie (Gance) Vogl. Clarence honorably served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War, and thereafter worked 30 years in Civil Service with the United States Air Force as a Pneudraulic Specialist. Clarence married Shirley Skoglund in 1944, and they had five children together. Clarence married Sharon Lee Noble on September 6, 1964, in Naples, Idaho, and they had four children together. Mr. Vogl was a member of the VFW Post in Akron. He was a native Coloradoan who liked fishing, hunting, camping and most of all farming. Clarence loved to dance and very much enjoyed attending the annual Glenn Miller dances where various bands would come to town and play Glenn Miller music and other music of that era. He loved his family and they were very important to him, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Sharon "Lee" Vogl of Akron, seven daughters, Pennie Fitch of Deming, WA, Vickie Rasmussen of Bellingham, WA, Melodie Nelson of Everett, WA, Robin Vogl of Everett, WA, Debra Eiland of Divide, CO, Candice Daino of Colorado Springs, CO, and Ginger Iekel of Sterling, one son, Walt K. Vogl of Castle Rock, CO, one sister, Florence Meyers of Denver, 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Annette Marie Hickey, and one brother, William Vogl. There will be a visitation on Sunday, August 21, 2011, from 2 until 5 pm at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary in Ft. Morgan. This will be followed by a reception at the family home for relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, August 22, 2011, at 10:30 am at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Denver. Interment will follow in the Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
