Clayton A. Sack, 96, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2020, at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush.  He was born February 3, 1924, in Weeping Water, NE to Reuel & Lillian Sack.  He attended Plattsmouth High School.

Clayton served in the US Army during WW II.  He landed at Utah Beach on June 16, 1944.  He was a sergeant in the 746 ^th Tank Battalion, fought in the Battle of the Bulge and helped defend the bridge at Remagen.  He returned home in November of 1945.

He married Willa Bea Stevens in Lincoln, NE on August 1, 1948, 3 days after his graduation from the University of Nebraska.  They celebrated their 72 ^nd anniversary earlier this month.

Upon graduation, he entered the banking business.  After brief stops in western Nebraska, he worked for Security National Bank in Superior, NE (1950-66), became President of Kansas State Bank, in Garnett, KS (1966-1981), and finished his career at Farmers State Bank, then Goodman Realty, both in Akron.  Clayton loved his work, which he defined not as banking, but as "helping people."

Clayton was very involved in civic groups wherever he went, including Lions Clubs, Rotary Clubs and Sertoma. He was active in economic and regional development in all of these communities. He served as Mayor for Akron for one term.

Clayton was also an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Superior, teaching Sunday School to the high school class and later serving as a Trustee. He was on the Board of Trustees of United Methodist Churches in both Garnett and Akron.

Survivors include his wife, Willa Bea of Brush; 4 children, Chuck (Sara) of Parsons, KS, Steve, Ft. Collins, CO, Alan (Kathleen), Springfield, VA and Laurel, Rochester, NY; 3 grandchildren, Morgan Sack (Joel Donlon), Brian (Loren), and Logan; and 2 great-grandsons, Asher and Pierce Donlon.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Richard and two granddaughters, Angela and Taran.

No service has been scheduled due to the pandemic.  Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Heer Mortuaries & Crematory in Brush. The family suggests any donations be directed to your local Alzheimer's Association. And you can think of Clayton any time you drive past a local Dairy Queen, since he could rarely drive past without stopping.
