Shuman
Sep 20, 1943 — Apr 22, 2019
Conald R. Shuman, lovingly known as "C.B.", age 75, passed away Monday, April 22,
2019. He was born September 20, 1943, in Dodge City, KS to John F. and Bonnie E.
Shuman.
C.B. graduated from Agate High School in Agate, CO with five classmates with whom
he remained the best of friends for over 55 years. He attended Lamar Community
College in Lamar, CO and graduated from Panhandle State University in Goodwell, OK.
C.B. was raised in the the Agate & Deer Trail community on a prominent purebred
Shorthorn cattle ranch. He spent his youth showing cattle and loving the ranching way
of life. While working as a real estate agent, C.B. raised his four children in Strasburg,
CO. He later moved to Fort Morgan where he lived for over 20 years and worked as a
sales representative for Morton Buildings.
From coaching baseball when his children were young to being a score keeper for the
CHSAA State Wrestling Championships for nearly 30 years, C.B. loved being involved
in his community. He was a favorite when he played Santa Claus for many years at
area nursing homes. C.B.'s volunteer activities also included the Strasburg Volunteer
Fire Department and serving as a coach for the Morgan County 4-H Livestock Team. He
was a 50 year member of the Byers, CO Masonic Lodge, a long time member of the
National Western Stock Show, Jaycees, Elks Lodge, and United Methodist Church.
C.B. cherished time spent with his family and enjoyed traveling, playing cribbage, and
his Nash Metropolitan collector cars.
C.B. never met a stranger, was loved and admired by all who knew him, saw only the
very best in people, and had a sense of humor as dry as the desert. To put it simply, he
was dearly loved.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Fort Morgan; 4 children, Brian of Everrett, WA;
Scott (Krista) of Eaton, CO; Barbara Shafer of Aurora, CO; and John (Lori) Shuman of
