Curtis R. Umberger, 73, of Brush, died Tuesday afternoon at the North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. He was born March 6, 1938 in Berlin, Pennsylvania to Harold and Pauline Umberger. After graduating from high school Curtis served in the United States Navy. He married Jean McIntosh on April 21, 1961 in Denver. He began his career as a diesel mechanic in Northglenn, Colorado where he worked for Power Equipment. In 1990, they moved to Grand Junction where he worked for Century Equipment. He retired in 2000. They moved to Brush in 2003. Curtis enjoyed wood-working, making toys, trucks, replicas of equipment, furniture, and cabinets. He also enjoyed making leather items for his family. He loved spending time with his dogs and especially with his family. He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the American Legion. Curtis is survived by his wife, Jean, of Brush; his daughters, Penny Montano, and her husband, Greg, of Thornton, Colorado and Connie Dreitz, and her husband, Randy, of Brush; two brothers, Craig Umberger, of Martha, OK and Gary Umberger, of Grand Junction, and one sister, Linda Dixon, of Bullhead City, AZ; five grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey, one brother, Larry, and his parents. A memorial service will be held on Friday at 1:00 pm at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brush. The American Legion will be conducting Military Honors. The service will conclude at the church.
