Dale Harrison Norwood, 93, life resident of Morgan County, passed away Thursday night, May 11, 2017, at the TRU – hospice at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. He was born February 16, 1924, in Colorado Springs, CO, to Paul & Pauline (Chetelat) Norwood while living in Greenland, Colorado.
Dale graduated from Brush High School in 1942. On May 13, 1944, Dale was inducted into the US Navy in which he trained and served on the Bunker Hill. He was honorably discharged on March 10, 1946. On March 30, 1947, he married Edna Lois Hass in Brush. Together, they raised four children and celebrated 63 years of marriage.
Prior to retirement, Dale worked for the railroad, Great Western Sugar Factory, Xcel Beef Company as a trolley operator, along with a lengthy time for the State Port of Entry. He filled his time farming, visiting friends, raising a garden at home, and spending time with his grandchildren whom he loved dearly. He was a long-time member of the Brush Church of the Nazarene and proud member of the American Legion Sagebrush Post #68 of Brush. Dale enjoyed history of our country, state and local area and was a strong advocate of keeping up on politics. This love of history was fed at the local Brown Bag Luncheons held at the East Morgan County Library. He enjoyed trains, Harley Davidsons, old cars, especially Nash – Ramblers and old tractors. He will be remembered by many for his ministry of creating laminated news articles for many local residents. He (and his precious wife Edna) took great pride sharing and delivering his personally decorated laminates.
Surviving family includes his children, Patricia (Dean) Norwood – Procunier of Fort Morgan, Marilyn Ford of Fort Collins, Lance Norwood of Hillrose, and Tonya (Robert) Benich of Greeley, his brother Marvin (Isabelle) Norwood of Brush, many grandchildren, Larry (Tammy) Hall Jr., Teresa Hall, Eric (Cassandra) Langley, Krystle (Abe) Magana, Paul (Sara) McMurrin, Holly (Rafael) Sanchez, John (Kami) Norwood, Thomas Benich and William (Cierra) Benich; 14 great grandchildren (Tandi, Larz, Clara, Courtney, Cabrea, Zachary, Maisyn, Korven, Kyren, Daelynn, Dalton, Darlee Mae, Stanton, and Ashley) and 1 great-great grandson (X'Zaidrian). He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; 3 brothers, Gordin, Harold, and Roy along with two siblings who died at birth; and his parents Paul and Pauline.
Funeral services will be Thursday May 18, 2017, at 11:00 AM at the Brush Church of the Nazarene, 500 Cameron Street. Visitation will be 9:30 at the church and followed by celebration of Dale's life at 11:00. Military graveside services will be at the Brush Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to American Legion Post #68 Sagebrush. The Heer Mortuary is entrusted with the funeral arrangements
