Obituary

Dale L. Tedford, longtime Morgan County resident, passed away Friday, September 9, 2016 at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush. He was born July 16, 1930 in Washington, Iowa to Lee and Nellie Tedford, at his grandparent's farm.

As a child he attended school in Chugwater, Wyoming, Georgetown, Breckenridge, Yampa, Kiowa, and graduated from Hudson High School. He attended college at the University of Northern Colorado, where he earned BA, MA, and Ed Spec. degrees.

Dale served in the U.S. Army National Guard for 13 years, where he earned the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He was also Company Commander for the Fort Morgan unit.

On June 8, 1952 he married Eleanor Fehrn in Fort Lupton, CO, and that same year they moved to Morgan County where Dale was employed as field man for the H.J. Heinz Company. The call of the classroom was too strong and Dale began his career in education as the business teacher at Wiggins High School. He expected his students to do well and many of them graduated and went to work in very demanding secretarial jobs. He also served as School Superintendent. He later came to the Brush School District as Principal at Thomson School. He was a member of the Wiggins Rotary Club and later a member of the Brush Lions Club.

As a member of Rankin Presbyterian Church in Brush, Dale served at various times as an Elder and a Deacon, and also helped with Vacation Bible School.

Finance and money management were a special interest to him and after 27 years in or near the classrooms, he worked as a stockbroker until his retirement in 2003.

For recreation in his younger years he enjoyed fishing – especially in the mountain streams he knew so well as a child. He will be remembered as a patient, kind person who loved a good story and kept his family entertained with his ability to improvise.

Survivors include his wife Eleanor of Brush; Daughter Kathy (Roger) Reich of Greeley; Daughter-in-law Renee Tedford of Fort Lupton; Sister Marjorie Zimmermann of Greeley; Sisters-in-law Wilma Paceley and Ann Frye; Brothers-in-law William (Nada) Fehrn and Lawrence (Sharon) Fehrn; three Grandchildren Tonya (Chris) Merz, Justin (Jordan) Tedford, and Ryan (Chelsea) Tedford; Seven Great Grandsons and numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Forrest, Brother-in-law Patrick Zimmermann, Sister-in-law Genevieve Kiser, and his parents.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 1, 2016 at the Rankin Presbyterian Church, 420 Clayton Street in Brush at 1:30 P.M. The service will conclude at the Church. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to Rankin Church or Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center. The Heer Mortuary has been entrusted with the arrangements.
