Darrell Robert Holtz, age 79 of Brush, died Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at the Colorado Plains Medical Center in Fort Morgan. He was born May 6, 1933 in Little Cedar, Iowa to John and Elanor Holtz. He married Dorothy Jane Lewis June 11, 1954. She died in 1997. Before coming to Morgan County in 1964, Darrell was a teacher. He was also a part time pastor and during the summer months was a beekeeper. When he came to Morgan County to continue his teaching career for the Fort Morgan Public School District, he taught Spanish and English for 25 years, retiring in 1989. In November of 1997 he married Sally Johnson Pate in Brush, CO. He had many interests and hobbies and was always wanting to learn new things. He attended the Brush Nazarene Church and was a member of the Gideons. He had his pilot's license and was a member of a Radio Control Airplane Club. He collected stamps, old books, and marbles, enjoyed woodworking and fishing and hunting. Darrell is survived by his wife Sally of Brush; his son Terry Lee Holtz and wife Dena of Wellington, CO; his daughter Sandra Lea Smith and husband Charles of Bellvue, CO; 2 brothers, Merlin Holtz of Floyd, Iowa and David Holtz of Charles City, Iowa; 5 grandchildren, Ryan, Sabrina, Samantha, Leighana, and Gabriel; and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Roger Holtz. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, June 11, 2012 at the Brush Church of the Nazarene at 2:00 PM. Inurnment will follow in Serenity Falls Columbarium in Fort Morgan.
