David B. Balderston, 61, of Brush, passed away suddenly May 5, 2012, at the North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. He was born February 17, 1951, in Yuma, CO, to Bernard & Jean Balderston. David attended the Red Willow School, north of Yuma, as a boy, and graduated from Yuma High School in 1969. In September 1973, David moved to Brush and began working for his uncle, Bill Chrismer. On November 2, 1974, he married Susan Small in Brush. In 1975, he joined the Brush Fire Department where he had served as secretary and trustee, competed at Fire Conventions on the hose cart racing team and then retired in 1997. In 1978, David & Susan started Balderston Builders. His biggest work achievement was developing and building the condominiums on Howell Avenue, from breaking the property out of an estate to completing the project over the course of 7 years. Balderston Builders built several homes in Brush and the surrounding areas over the past 37 years, many in the area where he and Susan lived. David was a member of the Brush Masonic Lodge AF & AM #123; El Jebel Shrine, Bunker Hill Country Club where he had served on the board of directors, and the Harley Owners Group (HOG). He enjoyed golfing, camping, boating, water-skiing, snow- skiing, motorcycling, and watching his girls as they participated in volleyball and track. Survivors include his wife, Susan of Brush; 2 daughters, Natosha (Matt) Gorski of Chesapeake, VA, and Nicole (Dale) Meyer of Orlando, FL; his mother, Jean (Balderston) Crowley of Bartlesville, OK; 3 sisters, Barbara (Dan) Fix of Cornville, AZ, Beverly (Ron) Gisi, of Bartlesville, OK, and Nancy (Rick) Alexander of McKinney, TX; his parents-in-law, Marilyn & Wayne Small of Brush; and 4 grandchildren, Ava & Ryan Gorski and Addison & Quinn Meyer. He was preceded in death by his father. A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 10, 2012, at the Brush High School Auditorium at 4:00 PM. Masonic services will be held at this memorial service also. The service will conclude at the school. David previously requested that everyone in attendance wear casual clothing, especially Hawaiian-style flowered shirts, colorful tops, and shorts. Memorial gifts may be given to the Brush Volunteer Fire Department or El Jebel Shrine, both c/o the Heer & Dahl Mortuaries.
