David Allen Benzel of Fort Morgan, Colorado passed away unexpectedly on January 4 ^th in Wray, Colorado at the age of 57.

David was born at Memorial Hospital on June 13 ^th , 1963 in Sidney, Nebraska.  He grew up on a farm west of Sidney and was the youngest of five children.  He attended Central Elementary and Sidney Jr. and Sr. High Schools.  He played baseball and was on the wrestling team during high school.  David worked as a plumbing apprentice, drove trucks in the oil field, worked for several car dealerships in the Denver area, and then back to driving truck in the farming/dairy industry.  David received many awards during his career to include The President's Award and Manager of the Year from O'Meara Ford, and other awards for safe driving, training and finance.

David enjoyed fishing, hunting, Nebraska football, motorcycles, horseback riding (he loved his horse Diablo), travel, music and growing plants.  He always had a smile on his face, was always there when in need of help, and he was very compassionate.  He traveled to Hawaii, St Maartin, Cancun and Cozumel among other destinations.  We all feel fortunate for the time we had with him, and he will be missed.

David is survived by his daughters; Theresa (James) Cotten of Forney, Texas, Bobbi Benzel of Forney, Texas, and Liliana Benzel of Commerce City, CO.  His grandchildren; Trevor Benzel, Victoria Lopez, Isabella Rosa, Brendan Hamilton and Braylon Hamilton.  His sisters; Cathy (Richard) Pierson, Karen (Bertie) Tayler, and Dianna McNees, and his brother; Larry (Mirla) Benzel.  He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  He was predeceased by his parents Kenneth and Lorraine (Cloud) Benzel, niece Jennifer Van Briesen and brother-in-law David McNees.

A memorial service will be Saturday, January 16th at 2:00 PM at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan.

David will be laid to rest at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney, Nebraska.
