David " Hooter" Alan Gettman passed away on June 6th, 2022 at Saint Elizabeth Hospital. David was born to parents Harold "Tubby" and Betty Gettman on December 24, 1948. He graduated from Fort Morgan High School in 1967. He was drafted into the Marine Corp in 1968. He served in the Vietnam War until 1970.
He married Judy Maureen Korrey August 11th, 1968. He is survived by the love of his life, Judy, of 53 years. From the love of this union three sons were born; Cory David, Troy Alan (Denise) and Jason David. Six grandchildren; Brady Gettman (Nina), Blake Gettman (Fiance Shekinah), Timothy Gettman (Eryikha), Peighton Gettman, Noah Gettman, and Faith Gettman. Three great grandchildren; Miguel Gesick, Jax Gettman, and Montgomery Gettman. His siblings, Paula (John Buchanan), Linda (Mike Cowan), Cindy Gettman, and Candy Gettman and several nieces and nephews.
Upon returning from Vietnam he continued his career at Great Western Sugar where he worked his way up to Sugar End Foreman. He retired in 2013 with forty three years of service. After retiring he would occasionally provide training and consulting.
David loved to play as hard as he worked. Some of his fondest memories came from the softball fields where he and Judy formed lifelong friendships. The duo also participated in many expeditions including golf outings, traveling with family, and watching their grandchildren participate in their many activities. Some of Hooter's favorites were the 20th Anniversary trip to Hawaii, Alaskan Cruise, Arizona Spring Training, Gettman Family Reunion in Estes Park, College World Series in Omaha, Hilton Head, North Carolina and Mesquite, Nevada golf trips.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Jason, his sister, and brother-in-law, Gloria "Jeannie" and Marion Blecha, and brothers, Doogie Gettman and Randy Gettman.
Celebration of Life services will be held at Christ Congregational Church on Saturday, June 11th at 10:00 AM. There will be a private inurnment at the Serenity Falls Columbarium. Feel free to stop by Dave and Judy's home, 425 Hickory, to share in fellowship.
