Obituary

DAVID KISSLER, 86, longtime area farmer, passed away Monday morning, December 16, 2013 at his home in Fort Morgan. He was born in Fort Morgan on May 17, 1927 to Henry & Katherine Kissler. Dave grew up around Keenesburg, CO and later LaSalle, CO, graduating from College High School in Greeley, CO in 1945. Immediately after graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy. His tour of duty was spent aboard the seaplane tender, USS Pine Island, primarily in the Sea of Japan. After his honorable discharge, he came home and started farming, an occupation that he loved. Dave married Doris Halligan of Roggen, CO on March 23, 1957. To this union, two children were born, Lorinda and James. Dave farmed north of Byers, CO until 1967 when the family moved to the Fort Morgan/Brush area. There he farmed until age and ill health dictated his retirement. Along with his farming duties, he found time to be a commercial painter and roofer, which he did for nearly 20 years. Dave was a wonderful husband and father. He was a kind and generous person who will be sadly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Henry, Fred, Harold, and Edward; and his sisters, Marie, Lotte, Lydia, Rachel, and Frieda. He is survived by his wife, Doris; his children, Lorinda (& Mark) Anderson, and James (& Brenda) Kissler; two brothers, Sam and Dan, and numerous nieces and nephews. At Dave's request, there will not be a funeral service. The Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan is in charge of cremation arrangements.
