Obituary

Dean Leroy Wigton was born to John and Florence (Bogart) Wigton on April 23, 1931 in Kanorado, Kansas. On Tuesday, January 12, 2021 Dean was reunited with his wife Arlene Rose in heaven. He was 89 years old.

Dean graduated from high school in Burlington. He attended college at Colorado A&M College, now known as Colorado State University. He then transferred to University of Northern Colorado. Between the two colleges, he completed his teaching degree.

In 1952, Dean joined the military as a Private in the Army Reserve Infantry as a cook. He was stationed in Alaska.

Dean and Arlene (Becker) met through 4-H, fell in love and were married on June 19, 1954. Shortly after their marriage began, they purchased a farm located south of Stratton; where they owned and operated a dairy farm. To this union, seven daughters were born. Radean Lee was born in 1955, Charlene Rose in 1956, Shirley Marie in 1959, Janell Sue in 1961, Kathy Jo in 1963, Rhea Kay in 1967 and Judy Ranee in 1970.

Dean was very involved in the Boy Scout program and was a leader for many years. He, along with Arlene, were leaders for the Merry Mixers 4-H Club. Honors he received include the Iron Horse award for his dedication to the youth. Dean was a member of the Brown Swiss Association. As well as, a member of Farm Bureau where he served on the board of directors for many years.

Dean was proceeded in death by his wife Arlene Wigton; father and mother, John and Florence Wigton; his father and mother-in-law, Leander and Madeline Becker; brother-in-law, Doug Becker; son-in-law, Larry Squire; grandson, Philip John Squire; grandson-in-law, Mark Robinson.

He is survived by his seven daughters: Radean Lee (Allan) Mattson, Charlene Rose (Randy) Gorton; Shirley Marie Squire; Janell Sue (Jay) Pettibone; Kathy Jo (Phillip) Erickson; Rhea Kay (Tony) Daise; Judy Ranee (Merritt) Koehn. Also surviving are seventeen grandchildren: Anna Lee Robinson, Bethany Kay (Justin) Cypert, Cathrine Marie (Alex) Stipe; Rodney Francis (Julie) and Bryan Dean (Molly) Gorton; Benjamin Eugene (Suzanne), Michael Kenneth, Jory David (Kodi) Squire; Andrew Lynn (Jessica) and Danielle Sue Pettibone; Jacob Daniel (Sarah) Erickson and Samantha Jo (Dustin) Delgado; Kaitlyn Kay and Trevor Alan Daise; Chelsea Rae (Shane) Whitmore, Kayla Ann, and Chase Coltin (Raquel) Flynn. Twenty-three great-grandchildren: Joshua and Evelyn Robinson; Joel Cypert; Emilia Stipe; Madelynn, Cooper, and Jordann Gorton; Maggie and Jack Gorton; Kaiden, Kyleigh, and Kalieb Squire; Katelyn and Jason Squire; Hudson, Eloise, and Carly Pettibone; Dylan, Jayden, Bryson, and Ashlynn Erickson; Diego and Graylynn Delgado. One sister Nadine Bailey; and two sisters-in-law: Peggy Becker and Donna Becker. As well as, numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

Honorary pallbearers are Dean's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Final resting place is the Claremont Cemetery in Stratton, Colorado on Saturday, January 30, 2021, at 11:00 AM.   Memorial donations may be made in Dean's name to the Kit Carson County Fairground Building Fund and may be sent to P.O Box 160 Burlington, Colorado 80807.
