Delbert E. Henry, 81, passed away Friday, April 24, 2020, at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center. He was born on June 20, 1938, in Genoa, CO to Ray and Zellah Henry.

During his school days, he helped his family with a paper route and as a teen he helped his dad with custodial work at the high school. Delbert graduated from Genoa High School in 1957. After graduation, he worked for local farmers in the Genoa area. In 1961, he joined the United States Army, was stationed in Germany, and was honorably discharged in 1963. In 1972, he and his family moved to Brush, CO after living in Joes, CO for 4 years.

In 1967, Delbert was employed with the State Highway Department. He retired from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) after working for 36 years.

Survivors include his children; Bonnie (Mike) Schreiner, Tammy (Jonathon) Hillyer, Dan Henry, and Rick Henry; his sister, Donna Silsbee; brothers, David, Darroll, and Darvon. Also survived by 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; Ray and Zellah Henry; his sister, Doris Tolley; brothers, Donald and Dean Henry, and daughter-in-law Rene Henry.

Delbert enjoyed visiting his family. He always looked forward to spending birthdays with loved ones. Never afraid of hard work, he was usually busy fixing up his home and yard. He attended Brush Church of the Nazarene for many years where he worshipped his Saviour, made lasting friendships, and enjoyed in fellowship. In his free time, he liked to have coffee with his friends, playing pool at the senior center, eating out with friends and family and playing catch with his great-grandchildren. During his younger years, he hunted and fished. He played pool, table tennis, and foosball at his home. He played in tennis competitions.  He also enjoyed playing on adult volleyball and basketball teams. He enjoyed playing cards, with electric race cars. He was an avid bike rider, riding to and from work every day, when weather permitted.

Delbert would talk about his trips to Alaska, Arizona and various Colorado locations to visit family, often telling funny stories of his antics while visiting. He had a competitive edge to his game playing, which kept us on our toes. He loved life, good times, good food, and lots of teasing. He always wanted to know how we were doing, what was going on in our lives, and wanted to be a part of it.

He will be dearly missed.
