Obituary

Dennis Allen McMillan, 48, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2016 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Cheyenne, Wyoming with his mother at his side. Dennis was born December 12, 1967 in Brush, Colorado to Don and Kay (Forrest) McMillan.

He grew up enjoying spending time on his grandfather Forrest's farm. Those experiences left him with a lifetime of wonderful memories such as setting irrigation tubes, shooting prairie dogs, and driving the tractor. As a child and youth, Dennis enjoyed many activities. He was a great bowler, swimmer, baseball player, and loved the game of golf. He was also known for his music ability playing his trumpet and guitar.

He graduated from Fort Morgan High School in 1986. After graduation Dennis joined the U.S. Army where he served primarily in Germany until his Honorable Discharge in July, 1990. While in Germany he was awarded the Army Marksman Sharp Shooter Trophy. He also belonged to the Army Ski Team. He retired from Active Reserves July, 1995.

After his military service, he remained in Jacksonville, Florida for ten years. During his time in Florida he worked for Brite Lite Signs, working in many southern states building high tower signs for Winn-Dixie. Also while in Florida, he belonged to a Dart Club. Through hard work and dedication Dennis turned professional. He represented the state of Florida in the National Dart Tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada where he placed 7th in the nation.

Dennis returned to Colorado in 2001 and went to work at The Inn in Estes Park as a Pool Technician and Maintenance Supervisor. He returned to Brush and continued doing maintenance work at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center and Sunset Manor Nursing Home.

In August 2010, Dennis decided to further his education, attending Morgan Community College where he maintained a 4.00 GPA. He received a certificate in Advanced Gas Tungsten/Gas Metal Arc Welding, Shielded Metal Arc (stick) Welding, and Blueprint Read- Welders/ Fitters Certificates. March, 2012 he was employed at MMI as a Welder Fabricator until his health forced early retirement.

His hobbies were fishing, target shooting, and he was able to sculpture with metal. Some of his work included sculptures of the Denver Bronco logo. He enjoyed taking drives in the country with his loving little dog and best friend "Scruffy". He was known for his wit and sense of humor. Dennis was a member of the American Legion Post 19 Fort Morgan.

Dennis is survived by his Mother, Kay (Forrest) McMillan of Fort Morgan; Brother, Donald (Mary) of Berthoud; Aunts, Fay (Elvin) Johnson of Fort Morgan; Loretta Jean Sharpe of Corona, CA; Uncle, Al Lesser of Lakewood; and many Cousins.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Don McMillan, Grandparents, H.E. and Velma Forrest, James (Slim) McMillan, Frank and Ruth Hunt, his Aunt Rev. Marilyn Lesser and his beloved dog "Scruffy".

Memorial Services will be Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 10:00AM at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Brush. Inurnment with Military Honors will be at the Brush Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the American Legion Post 19, P.O. Box 44, Fort Morgan, CO 80701.
